If you are looking for mountain biking or a day out with the family, Drumlanrig is a great place to visit, you'll want to go back again and again.
The large park and forests offer trails for all abilities, from green routes on bumpy forest tracks and quiet country roads, ideal for beginners and families, to full-on black runs on technically twisting single track, which will test the best of riders. Its key feature is the mainly natural trails which change with the seasons. Trail and bike hire information.
Drumlanrig itself is a beautiful 17th century Castle, the family home of the Duke of Buccleuch which also houses a large art collection and nestles in the scenic surrounding of the Nith valley. Below the Castle are the Victorian Gardens, and nursery were you will also find the giant Adventure Playground, which is great for young and old. There is a choice of two places to eat, the Stableyard snack bar, or the traditional Victorian kitchen tearoom, both serving homemade delicious food. The castle courtyard is home to a variety of craft workshops, including jewellers, woodcarvers a blacksmith, artists and fine local produce. Most facilities are seasonal, though the toilets and showers are available all year.
There is a entrance fee which also covers use of the adventure playground for kids. This is a seasonal charge - see Trails page.
The estate is easy to reach on the A76 Dumfries to Glasgow road.
