Kirroughtree repays a smooth fluid riding style; It’s all about the rider not the bike.
The trails here are in a stack loop so every one starts off on the blue route with the option to continue on with the red and black routes. If your not sure what level your up to or are not used to riding rocky sections why not try out the skills area just out from the car park.
Did I mention the rock? – the blue route has a few small rock steps and gardens to warm you up but things get bigger and more challenging as you move through red to black - and then there is McMoab a great white whale back of granite reached by a tenuous line of slabs and causeways that will literally keep you on your toes (or back) as you power your way to the top. If it looks a bit too hard for you or it’s blowing a gale you can continue on the fire road to the challenge of heartbreak hill.
Talnotry hill follows, a blasting decent with superb views if you can tear you eyes from the trail.
Then it’s back in to the trees and the thrills of Hissing Sid, The Jabberwocky and The Twister before the final swoopy run back to the visitor centre and that coffee and cake you know you deserve.
Kirroughtee may seem out on a limb but it’s one of the best, don’t miss it!
